A FUN FACTOID ABOUT PONY MATING HABITS WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT

Mares are usually sexually inactive during the winter because they are grazing animals. Which means they'd rather their young is born in the spring when the weather is warm and the grass is growing.

  1. Thank you for not sharing the same gritty details as does Animal Planet. Really, every time I breeze past that station animals are doing it.

  2. Maybe the mares are but having taken care of 4 males for a year, they were always "hanging out"! Just like a man. haha.

  3. A lot of animals mate in the spring, and I either never realised it was because of this, or just didn't really think about it.

  13. I hope my first born son isn't a pony. That would be hard because it's difficult to raise a horse in an appartment.

  15. Are you sure its not just because it's damn cold in winter and who the hell wants to try to get it on when you have to strip off 4 layers of clothing/pony fur to get a few minutes of action? Stallions are notoriously selfish, after all. Not to mention, we all gain a little winter weight, maybe ponies have lower self esteem during those months.

  16. Having had a baby born near the beginning of February, in the middle of a snowstorm, I can relate to that mare's logic.
