IPHONE BAND ROCKS THE HOUSE! LIVE!

I remember when Mtv went through the stage of having every band perform unplugged. Tesla, Eric Clapton, Bon Jovi, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots and 10,000 maniacs were the good ones, from what I remembered. LL Cool J, not sure if that worked out. Though Mamma’s Gonna Knock You Out did have a catchy 12 string beat. Here we are a handful of decades later, and a new stripped down, raw sound has emerged – The iPhone Band. This summer the Feel AbouT band performed live, playing only with iPhones as instruments. They had hooked 'em up to amps for volume. The i-concert took place at the MotoRock bar in Tel-Aviv, Israel. What amazed me the most was not the incredible sound, or the proficiency of the e-maestros. It was the fact that half the phones were 2G (edge network). Here’s the official band/app roster.

Guitar - Guy Fisher - Frontier iShred - iPhone 3G

Bass - Aviran Rotem - MooCow Band - iPod 2G

Drums - Dror Rostami MooCow Band - iPhone 2G

Piano - Tal Aviram - Mini Piano - iPhone 2G

Vocal - Roni Weinstock

Follow Me Down is the song performed. I’d say there sound is reminiscent of the 90s Cranberries. At least for that cut. There fan site has other (non-iPhone) songs which definitely have a harder edge. You can also check ‘em out on iTunes and Amazon.

TOP 10 ANNOYING SONGS PEOPLE SING WHILE DRUNK AT A BAR AT AROUND 2:23AM.

We’ve all been in that situation. The best night of our bar lives! Whether it’s the flowing beer, the cool company or a romantic encounter, there’s just something that tells us we don’t want this night to end. I’m not above having those nights. The problem is when I don’t, and I have to watch people in that moment. And what comes with that magic night? Singing. No shouting at the top of your lungs, the lyrics to some song the bar is playing. So without further adieu here is the ….WAIT this does not mean I don’t like these songs. I just don’t like them being yelled at 2:23 in the morning. Onto the Annoying Bar Song list…

#10.) Alanis Morissette – Ironic: Angry song sung by people high on depressants. What a combo.

# 9.) Def Leppard – Pour Some Sugar on Me: Actually, it’s not the singing that bothers me as much as the air drumming.

#8.) Notorious BIG – Hypnotize: Rapping and beer do not mix. And if you think it’s bad seeing me do the overbite when I dance, it’s nothing compared to me Hip Hoping. Though, I can hold my own in battle dancing.

#7.) Pearl Jam – Even Flow: I challenge anyone to correctly sing an Eddie lyric after 4+ beers. The best is when they do the Eddie mumble. It’s like a dog whistle for humans.

# 6.) Bon Jovi – Livin’ on a Prayer: There’s not a prayer in hell it sounds good after 3 shots of bourbon and yeager.

# 5.) Garth Brooks – Friends In Low Places: Great F^%$ song in 1992! 2009? Not so much.

#4.) Journey – Don’t Stop Believin’: Ugh! It’s especially annoying when they stop it at the Sopranos ending.

#3.) Rick Springfield – Jessie’s Girl: Yes, the irony isn’t lost on me.

#2.) Neil Diamond – Sweet Caroline: I curse the movie Beautiful Girls for making this song a bar staple. It’s especially annoying when the bartender turns off the volume for certain lyrics. So good. So good.

And #1.) Whitesnake – Hear I go again: Let’s face it, only a chosen few have the pipes for 1980s rock music. And unfortunately they never seem to be in the bar.

Well that’s it. Don’t forget to tip your waitresses.

DOWN HOME GANGSTA-STYLE!!!

Every now and then you see some bands/singers do the ol’ country crossover. In the 90s, you saw southern belles like Shania Twain, Dixie Chicks, and Leann Rimes two-steppin' over to pop territory. Recently bands like Bon Jovi and Kid Rock have made reverse jumps from rock to rock-ish country. Of course Cowboy Troy has made the grandest gallop of them all. Country to Hip-Hop. Cowboy Troy is being billed as a country rapper. Troy's music has a kinda hard hip hop edge to it, but is still firmly rooted in country (if that makes any sense.) He has 4 studio albums under his big buckled belt. Two of which (Loco Motive & Black in The Saddle), hit Billboard’s top 100 for country. Troy has made appearances on USA Network’s Nashville, WWE’s Raw and at the Republican National Convention in 2008. No word if the duet he did with the Notorious Dick Cheney will ever be released as a single.
