    Im located in London been employed by as being a secretary over ten years and also have an HND in Business Studies but am fed up with
    admin work and office politics and would like to take action more creative- change careers.

    But there was just one last change needed before lawmakers could
    give their final approval. Then-Assembly Speaker Jack Collins,
    R-Salem, inserted an exemption for lawmakers' communications, shielding internal notes and letters from constituents from the public access mandated for other levels of government. Several lawmakers said at the time the change was needed to protect constituents who might write with sensitive personal information. The last-minute change to the Open Public Records Act remains intact, to the dismay of the New Jersey Press Association, local officials who have to follow more strict rules and even some of Collins' party-mates who still toil in the Assembly.
    New Jersey law, which took effect five years ago this week, exempts from public review information lawmakers receive from constituents and communications
    crafted as part of their official duties. Some legislative records, such
    as payroll data, are publicly available under OPRA. When the bill was signed into law in January
    2002, James E. McGreevey, who had been elected governor
    but had not yet taken office, said he would fight to
    reform the measure, but it never happened. Senate President Richard J.
    Codey, D-Essex, worried at the time of the bill's signing that opening up all of lawmakers' communications
    could chill internal discussions. Codey and Assembly Speaker Joe Roberts, D-Camden, who
    in 2002 spoke out against the legislative exemption, did not
    return phone calls seeking comment for this story. Neither did Collins, now a lobbyist.
    Ironically, Collins' fellow Republicans cried foul when they sought government records in 2006, seeking information about lawmakers' roles in steering $128 million of state Treasury Department grants.
    Republicans have accused Democratic lawmakers of improperly directing grants to specific municipalities, a charge
    Democrats reject. The Treasury Department rejected a
    records request from Assembly Republicans, citing the
    exemption for legislative communications under OPRA.
    Assemblyman Richard Merkt, R-Morris, one Republican who had hoped to
    see what notes from Democrats to Treasury held, said communication between lawmakers and government agencies should be public.

    But you spend your life working multiple jobs to provide for your family, not tuned in to a news cycle that
    may have told you about a voter ID law that changed the requirements.
