MORE 3.1 TALES OF HORRORS.

by Greg Colfaz (NWM Staff Writer)

Yo, from Cottonwood Idaho. Still haven’t updated my iPhone yet – on account of my PC computer sucking an all. Here are 3 other ghoulish tales of tech about 3.1…

I upgraded my 3G to software 3.1 last night. Right at the upgrade onset I got the 2006 error that required a reload of iPhone OS, then I restored all my content. Went to bed, it worked fine for about 4 hours this morning and as of about an hour ago, it shuts down after about 5 minutes of inactivity. I then have to hold down home and the wake/sleep button for 10 secs to make it reboot.

Random shut-downs occurred after OS 3.1 update. Only a reset will make it work. It happened once yesterday and about six times today. On the most recent attempt to reset, the battery was completely drained. It had been at around 80% charged three hours earlier, on the last time I'd successfully used it.

I was browsing in Safari and locked the phone using the top button. Second time I was listening to music and paused the music using the button on my headset. When I came to use it again a few mins later it was locked hard. Plugging it into the power doesn't elicit a response either. All this within 24 hours of the 3.1 update. I've had this iPhone for over a year and it's never done this before.

3.1 TALES OF HORROR.

by Greg Colfaz (NWM Staff Writer)

Big YO from Cottonwood, Idaho. Well, it’s been 12 days and I have absolutely no plans to update my iPhone to 3.1. Especially after reading these 3.1 tales of horror. Warning, the following forum posts are not for the faint of heart.

3.1 Update Problem - Hangs

After successful iTunes 9 software update I plugged in my iPhone 3G for 3.1 and on final completion of the iPhone firmware update iTunes will post error 1002 and states the phone is in recovery mode and requires a restore before installing new software update. The phone is currently a nice paper weight. I have tried entering into DFU mode but the iPhone seems to disappear from iTunes for a few short moments then reappears stating the same problem.

3.1 Hell

Hi all, I upgraded to 3.1 yesterday, all ok, until I tried to view video files on U-Tube, then today when i plugged into windows to back up and charge, the whole thing tanked, could not access etc. Tried back up and restore no help.

3.1 AHHHHH!!!!

32 attempts now over a 24 hour period using 1 pc and 2 laptops... Come on Apple *** is going on. Is there no testing before releasing updates??? I thought that was Microsoft’s job...I guess I'm going to have to dust of my old HTC Trinity with Windows mobile on it, at least hat still works.

3.1 MEANS I’M ABOUT TO GO MEDIEVAL ON MY IPHONE – AGAIN!

by Greg Colfaz (NWM Staff Writer)

Hi again, from Cottonwood Idaho. Just caught the apple keynote on my laptop. Definitely happy to see Steve is back in black on stage. What I’m not so happy about is his announcement. Yet again we are being treated to another iPhone update. This one has a bunch of new features like…

- app recommendations

- wireless ringtone download

- organize apps on virtual itune screens (huh?)

- Genius mixing for playlists (double huh?)

- better playback of videos

Now I have zero issues with these planned updates. They excite the consumer to buy more stuff, lots of love for Apple – so is the circle of marketing life. I get it. My problem is I can never update my %^$%^ iPhone without it crashing a cajillion times! Probably due to the fact that I have a very, very old PC laptop. And we all know how well Macs and PCs get along. See I wouldn’t care about any issue if I had one of those Apple store Genius bars near me. Of course I don’t. The nearest one is over in Bellevue – Washington! Conveniently located one state over. I have to stew in update hell all by myself. My one saving grace is NOW, I actually have the ability to act on my iphone rage. I am the proud owner of Otterbox Defender Series iPhone Armor. The toughest case on the planet. It renders my iphone, dustproof, dirtproof, sandproof and yes, my personal favorite – DROP-PROOF! So I can torture my evil, vindictive, non-updating, crashing, frozen iPhone – and not have to deal with the 3 hour drive of shame. Yahtzee!

Click here to order Outterbox armor.

See the Otterbox armor defend the iPhone from a puppy mauling.
