The above pic is from my room. Not bad for $167 a night. Heading back now, but it was a fun time. Quaint little town. Though the problem is because it was so quaint a lot of the places close early. So our only choice for a late, late dinner was a dicey walk to the 7-11.



The wife settled on ice cream while I was a bit more daring and selected the new 7-11 specialty- taquitos. I wanted the buffalo chicken, but sadly they weren't finished. So I settled on the egg, cheese, and bacon morsel. Bought 2 of 'em for less than 3 bucks. They were delicious and I could eat 'em while walking back to the room. Just hit the spot. Here are 2 shots of these bad boys. Jealous much?

3 HAPPY THINGS FOUND IN DEATH VALLEY.

Probably not the best sign you’d find fun things in a town with the word “death” in the name. But hey, I’m ever the optimist…with access to google maps. So if you do blow out a tire and are stuck in this area of California, it won’t be a total loss. Unless you get kidnapped by some inbred mechanic.

TOLL ROAD RESTAURANT:
Restaurant itself is built from the original wood used for the old mines. Enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner at this quaint eatery that resembles a rustic cabin. Specialties include the potato soup and prime rib.

Hours of Operation:
Breakfast: Daily, 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
Lunch: Daily, 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Dinner: Daily, 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

FURNACE CREEK INN GIFT SHOP:
The perfect place to shop for one-of-a-kind finds. Browse through all types of books, apparel, local designed jewelry, southwestern treats and an assortment of glow in the dark scorpion paperweights.

BORAX MUSEUM:
Celebrates the culture and history of the Native American tribes indigenous to Death Valley. Plus, check out the fine collection of Borax mineral samples that were mined in DV way back in the 1860s. Of course, no visit would be complete without a trip to the antique train and wagon yard out back.

The Trans-Siberian Railway: Take a ride on the longest continuous rail line on the planet. Experience breathtaking views from the Volga port of Yaroslavl to Irkutskhe and the scenic Lake Baikal region.

It happens to me, ‘cause I’m a freak. If I go to a bar and have a really cool time, I’ll want to buy the bar's tshirt. Just 'cause. However, 2 things stop me from accomplishing my goal …

a) For some reason “bar tshirt buying” tends to be frowned upon aka dorkish, unless you’re visiting another country (at least that’s how the rule plays out in my warped mind.)

b) By the time I’m ready to purchase (rule A be damned), I only have a few crumpled dollar bills (leftover drink-round change) that I need for cab fare.
