MAN, PEOPLE REALLY DO HATE THE CRAP OUT OF SCRAPPY-DOO!

Scrappy-Doo was added to the Scooby-Doo cast in 1979.  Apparently the show was at a ratings low point. So the ABC suits thought a new character might draw in viewers. Surprisingly this “puppy power!” actually helped…at least back in the day. Though as we all know, Scrappy eventually became one of the most hated characters in Hanna-Barbera history. And sadly this rage has yet to die down. Check out these comments I found on the net.

RUH-ROH

by Tom McConville (NWM Staff Writer)

Being at home has given me the opportunity to check out a ton of cartoons. And the one that my two older kids are really into is Scooby Doo. THE ORIGINAL SCOOBY DOO! The Boomerang Network shows all the old episodes every afternoon. And certain things I remember still ring true. Scooby and Shaggy were indeed the precursors to Cheech and Chong, the sexual tension between Freddie and Daphne was on constant simmer, and Velma was undoubtedly first lesbian in an animated series. But the great thing is, those meddling kids still hold up after all these years.

What bums me out, however, is that Boomerang also shows a movie entitled...

‘Scooby Doo and the Ghoul School” featuring the most loathsome of all cartoon characters – a one Scrappy Doo.

Who though the addition of Scrappy Doo was a smart idea? The same people who thought the Miranda character on Sex and the City was good?  Scrappy was supposed to be a likable Dane.

Bad job Hanna. F minus Barbera.
