#1- The behavior of a Border Collie eating its own poop is known as coprophagia.
#2- Border Collies that have ingested parasites or worms maybe eating the poop to make up for the nutrients lost in their system
#3- Sometimes if a Border Collie sees you picking up poop he (or she) might be simply trying to mimic you by eating the crap.
#4- Sprinkling bitter apple or Cayenne pepper on the poop will deter your Border Collie from eating it.
Either that or it will give it a hot case of the runs!
ReplyDeletedoes, what it suppose to. There's something to learn from dogs, like eating your own shit.
ReplyDeletei wish my dog would eat his own poop... so much less mess to clean!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a massive waste of everyones time! , why was that even interesting?!
ReplyDeleteit's an anxiety. Border collies need herding.
ReplyDeleteAnd all along I thought Border Collies were the smartest dog breed.
ReplyDeletegreat info mate
ReplyDeleteLOL guess border collies ain't so smart after all!
ReplyDeleteReally great information you have shared and i appreciate your explanation.
ReplyDeleteInteresting. I didn't even know they ate poop.
ReplyDeleteIt's not just border collies though.
ReplyDeleteWhich is one of MANY reasons I refuse to let any dog lick my face.
ReplyDelete...interesting. #3 is kind of cute, in a weird, twisted way. Maybe it's just the picture going with it.
ReplyDeleteMany dogs eat poop, it's an instinct left over from when there were creatures that could kill them, before they got too bad-ass for any of that.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for that lesson. I had a miniature Sheltie who did that and I would freak! I couldn't understand it. Maybe there is some truth to it then. The vets said it was normal for some to do it. Gross. If she wasn't so damn cute I'd have gotten rid of her long before I did.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a Collie, but I suprisingly knew 3 of the 4 things today!
ReplyDeleteI'm in the 72.8% for sure. Doesn't explain why my mother's small dog eats the large dog's poop immediately upon evacuation of the bowels. No way of applying the #4 tip. Shudders.
ReplyDeleteIf you put cayenne pepper on my poop, I'd stop eating it too.
ReplyDeleteI've heard of this but I've never had a dog who did it..but I did have a dog who ate her own vomit. And she was 1/2 border collie.
ReplyDeleteAhhh, thank you so much for this little tid bit of disguising info. As usual, haha. Actually, I am up at my in-laws and they have a border collie. You better believe I am keeping an eye on him all day today. Not that I want to see him eat it...wait that all came out wrong. Eewww, gagging.
ReplyDeleteloll ewwwww that's not healthy
ReplyDeleteYou could always just scoop it...
ReplyDeletewho knew
ReplyDeleteI thought Border Collies were smarter than that!
ReplyDeleteNice way to put me off my dinner. Thanks for the diet tip!
ReplyDeleteThat's so funny, someone just posted that on FB the other day - but said to feed the dog pineapple to keep it from eating poop.
ReplyDeleteYucky! I will not have dogs because they lick their balls and eat poop! Following :)
ReplyDeleteWow i think i need a collie!
ReplyDeleteThis is EXACTLY why I never let a dog tongue kiss me...
ReplyDeleteyes, but will he eat my poop? i'm sick of these fucking free-loading dogs. get off your ass and earn your keep.
ReplyDeleteI want to have a dog who knows how to clean too.
