4 THINGS I’M 72.8% SURE YOU DON’T KNOW ABOUT WHY BORDER COLLIES EAT THEIR OWN POOP.

#1- The behavior of a Border Collie eating its own poop is known as coprophagia.

#2- Border Collies that have ingested parasites or worms maybe eating the poop to make up for the nutrients lost in their system

#3- Sometimes if a Border Collie sees you picking up poop he (or she) might be simply trying to mimic you by eating the crap.

#4- Sprinkling bitter apple or Cayenne pepper on the poop will deter your Border Collie from eating it.

  13. Many dogs eat poop, it's an instinct left over from when there were creatures that could kill them, before they got too bad-ass for any of that.

  14. Thank you so much for that lesson. I had a miniature Sheltie who did that and I would freak! I couldn't understand it. Maybe there is some truth to it then. The vets said it was normal for some to do it. Gross. If she wasn't so damn cute I'd have gotten rid of her long before I did.

  16. I'm in the 72.8% for sure. Doesn't explain why my mother's small dog eats the large dog's poop immediately upon evacuation of the bowels. No way of applying the #4 tip. Shudders.

  18. I've heard of this but I've never had a dog who did it..but I did have a dog who ate her own vomit. And she was 1/2 border collie.
