This yearly pre-Mardi Gras event, Fat Tuesday King Cake Eating Championship @ Showboat AC turned out to be a wild one. Though in the end it was Pat Bertoletti who woofed down 10.5 1/2 lb King Cakes in 8 minutes to win the $2,000 purse. Oh and for those at home keeping score, a king cake is a cinnamon bun type cake with Mardi Gras-type frosting (and a baby Jesus shoved in the middle).

ReplyDeletebig cake for the big people lol
ReplyDeleteBet that makes for some big belches! Think they leave room for some Tums?
ReplyDeleteThat thing looks delicious.
ReplyDeleteI want it.
We have something similar to this for El Dia de los Reyes Magos. We celebrate the three wise men visiting sweet Jesus in Mexico. It's delicious. No, actually, it's dry and awful.
ReplyDeleteDear God I don't think I could eat ten of those.
ReplyDeleteWow, the cake doesn't even look that nice in my eyes, wow. Best of luck to the competitors is all I can say, better them than me!
ReplyDeleteDammit but that's an ugly cake...
ReplyDeleteAWESOME! I bet Baby Jesus went right down the hatch too. That would make for interesting poop later.
ReplyDeleteNow that there is a LOT of cake. lol.
ReplyDeletethis just reminds me of how hungry i actually am :(
ReplyDeleteEw. I could probably beat that time though.
ReplyDeleteI feel kinda sick.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
The guy from Man vs Food is so jealous right now...
ReplyDeleteWow! that looks like quite the meal! I should get into competitive eating!
ReplyDeleteAwesome...I'd so fail at this
ReplyDeleteI think it was Rosemont Academy or some other college I wanted to go to badly in New Orleans (pre-Katrina, man...did I dodge the bullet on THAT one!) had information king cakes in their brochure concerning the local color.
ReplyDeleteI found it strange, that they'd include hanging out with friends at a coffee shop and eating the king cake together, whomever got the slice with the baby in it was considered lucky or had to buy the next cake, something like that.
Still! 2MLE4U. Good times, man, good times. Almost makes me miss my cable shows (fuck yeah Man Versus Food, No Reservations, Bizarre Foods...), 'cept they're on Netflix now. :3
