Reason #1:
IS IT BECAUSE I LOVE MASHED POTATOES & KETCHUP?
Yep, I see how you Americans react when I squirt some tomato goodness on potato goodness. What I wanna know is why? I mean, Yahoo Answers states that 80% of men and women love, love, LOVE fries & ketchup.
So what’s the big difference between the two? Saturated oil? Seriously, do you too think I’m barbaric (gross) for enjoying this meal? Tell me. I have thick skin (with a creamy center).
It's hard to think of a potato concoction that wouldn't taste good with ketchup.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I like to dip my french fries in mustard.
How do you feel about mustard on your mashed potatoes?
I don't think it's weird. What about Secret Sauce? Do you like that on your mashed potatoes as well?
ReplyDeleteI actually don't think it is weird. I know others that do it too. Besides, I like dipping my french fries in ranch.
ReplyDeleteI eat my shepherd's pie with ketchup....and well, there's mashed potatoes on that...so I guess I'm gross, too, eh?
ReplyDeleteOf course, my all time fave is brown gravy on french fries. YUMMY. Add a little cheese, call it a sort of poutine, and I'm a happy camper.
I doubt it's the mashed potatoes, dear. Perhaps you should keep probing the answer to the question of why you are gross...
ReplyDeletei hate ketchup...
ReplyDeletebut your propensity seems to be ok with me...
less my hatred of ketchup...

The ketchup/mashed potato combination is only considered gross when used as a sexual lubricant... and even then, not so much.
ReplyDeleteI'm too busy laughing at shady del knight to type now...I was going to write something sensible about how I really like this gourmet combination of 'pommes de terre puree a la sauce tomates' as the french would call it but it seems quite tame after your previous comment.
ReplyDeleteThere is no difference. I'm with you on this one.
ReplyDeleteIs that hollandaise sauce I see on your mashed taters? And where can you buy fast-food mashed potatoes that come in a take-out box? We don't have that out here. Oh, and for the record, I don't think ketch&mashed is gross. - G
ReplyDeleteWell...I don´t think is gross at all...at least in my country is actually very normal...people puts ketchup in rice...now I hate ketchup haha I am part of that 20% of wierd people xD...but I don´t think you are wierd...hey I like my fries with mustard!...So I aint the one to judge haha

Potato Chips & Ketchup!
ReplyDeleteum, jesse, aren't you yourself an american?
ReplyDeletei believe this means that if anyone disagrees with how you dress your mashed potatoes, you are entitled to shoot them in the face.
You like ketchup?! Ewwwww
ReplyDeleteThe Adorkable Ditz' Missteps
Maybe it is because the picture of the mashed potatoes looks like a hamster that's been stabbed a few dozen times! The fries look like they are laying on the beach with suntan lotion on.
ReplyDeleteoh honey you are my new BFF i to put ketchup on my mash potatoes it totally rocks
ReplyDeleteThat doesn't look bad to me. I just never thought of it. The next time I'm trying that.
ReplyDeleteSome people put mayonaise on their fries. I always put gravey on my fries...yummy.
Thanks for the idea.
I actually don't like fries at all...I can only eat it if I have some ketchup with it. It's just so dry and unsatisfying. I rarely grab fries with a burger, but Onion rings...mmm
ReplyDeleteI don't know why it's wrong, but it's wrong. Just like eating french fries with brown gravy is wrong...
ReplyDeleteNow I'm hungry!
I do that, sometimes with peas then I can make a volcano (that's already erupted).
ReplyDeletehaha my friend does that all the time! :P
ReplyDeleteshe blends ketchup with her mashed potatoes so it turns all orangey :P
I don't think that's gross at all lol Great stuff, glad I'm following!
ReplyDeleteMy son likes mashed potatoes just like you do.
ReplyDeletelooks yummy
ReplyDeletei dont think ketchup on potatoes is gross
ReplyDeleteI'm more of a sour cream and horseradish guy but I can learn to get along with ketchup on mashed potatoes. I don't judge.
ReplyDeleteYikes. Let's deep fat fry the blob of potatoes, then I can go for it.
ReplyDeleteI used to eat ketchup on my mashed potatoes growing up. Potatoes & ketchup DO go hand in hand. If it's not really the norm, people seem to get all "Ew" on ya. I think I just acquired a taste for simpler mashed potatoes over the years, but I don't think there's anything gross about it.
ReplyDeleteI am so freaking glad someone else eats theirs this way! My parents wouldn't eat at the dinner table with me if we were having mashed potatoes!!! I had to have ketchup! Fucking AWESOME! There is no difference between fries or mased potatoes.. they are the same!
ReplyDeleteHaha, I could totally have an on going series like this. Potatoes and ketchup doesn't sound so bad (maybe a little backwoods, but that is all). I like frozen, unbaked french fries. Maybe those would be good with ketchup too. Great blog, so glad I had a chance to stop by!

I'll be honest in saying that I never CONSIDERED the combination but I can't think of anything notably appalling about it. Very interesting.
ReplyDelete@Texasgermanadian
ReplyDeletei agree.
Ketchup is delicious on everything. I've eaten it on potato chips before.
