So it’s my wife’s birthday today. Thanks, I’ll give her your b-day wishes. Anyhow, I figured I’d surprise her with breakfast in bed. Well not really surprise her. More like ask her what she wants and grab it from the deli from down the street. [Yes, I got her other things].
So I ordered pancakes, bacon, a biscuit, and eggs. And for myself? A yogurt parfait. I’m trying to lose weight for my fall fashion collection. I have a lot of tight George Clooney-esque turtlenecks this year.
So after about 10 minutes of waiting the deli provided my Combo #5 in a shiny, new stryofoam container. And as I’m walking back with breakfast in hand it hits me…WOULD I DIE IF I ATE THIS ENTIRE STYROFOAM CONTAINER?
As soon as I got home (handed off the breakfast and said my birthday wishes) I got on google. The answer took me a bit longer to find than I thought [a whole 4 minutes]. Apparently this isn’t a burning question with the free world. It was on YahooAnswers (beggars can't be choosers). So here’s what I walked away with…
If you (an adult) eat styrofoam you are ingesting a compound known as stryrene. This can …
- Disrupt hormone functions (which could damage your thyroid)
- Cause different types of the Big C.
- Create a low platelet or hemoglobin counts
- Screw up your brain, spinal chord, and peripheral nerves.
THE GOOD NEWS IS...ALL THESE RESULTS OCCUR IF YOU EXIST ON A STEADY DIET OF THIS OTHER, OTHER WHITE MEAT FOR A LONG WHILE.
As far as eating just a tiny container, people say not much would happen. Though you should check yourself into an emergency room to be sure.
FYI…BABIES AND POODLES SHOULD NEVER EAT STYROFOAM!!!!
