SPIT. SWALLOW. IT’S ALL THE SAME, MEDICALLY SPEAKING.

I would never ever judge anyone’s preference. I’ve known (and had relationships with) people in both camps. I just was really curious if you are harming your body if you swallow. As usual 3.5 minutes of googling was all I needed to get to the bottom of my quandary. I found the answer on mayoclinic.com. They actually have a gastroenterologist (Michael Picco, M.D.) answering questions...including mine.
He starts off debunking the myth that the sticky stuff will sit in your belly for like 7 years. True he does acknowledge that the goo can’t be digested. However it totally has no problem being passed through your digestive system and out of the body in a wad of stool.

BTW…I’ve been talking about chewing gum the whole time. What’d you think I was referring to?

  8. I refused to bite this time. I've been reading your blog long enough to have developed a healthy distrust for your innuendo. lol

Though I still had to wait till the end to find out what you were talking about. Did he answer if swallowing will give you hiccups?

  9. Totally got me! But in either case... how many extra calories are you consuming?

  10. Great! I was laughing so hard, my 7 yr old wanted to know what it was about. I'll have to save that conversation for a couple (or 20) more years.

  13. Regarding the other stuff... Dr. Drew has said on Loveline that it only has a very small amount of calories to it, and doesn't actually contain protein. It's essentially equivalent nutritionally to mucus. (Although, Adam Carolla offered the smart idea that Drew should tell his daughter that it's 2,000 calories per swallow.)
