LOONEY TUNES THINKS YOUR KIDS ARE A BUNCH OF PANSIES AND I CAN PROVE IT

Our society uber-coddles today’s youth. Just look at the shows that are produced today? I mean you’d never see Sponge Bob harpoon Patrick through the head.
OR witness Dora taking a sledgehammer to Boots.
Yet when I was a kid Looney Tunes did that in every episode and wouldn’t think twice about the effects that stuff had on young impressionable minds such as myself. Eventually mommy groups and the FCC must have put some pressure on LT and friends. Why else would you have a watered down show like Baby Tunes?
Though the biggest travesty has been how they cut up and edit out the most offensive and violent fun scenes from the classic Looney Tunes shorts. The racist stuff I totally get. However, the following clip is just plain sad that kids have to miss out on good, clean, wholesome dark humor.

KITTY BLOWS HIS BRAINS OUT:
The gag here is that a cat appears at the end of the cartoon and basically feels that since he has now witnessed everything he has nothing left to live for. So as a result, the kitty shoots himself in the head (see visuals below). In LT shorts like “The Stupid Cupid” (1944), “The Grey-Hounded Hare” (1949) the scene has been edited out. Again, to shield tiny minds from what? An innocent little kitty suicide? PLEASE!!! Is this really so bad?

  3. Cartoons have become rather tame for the most part. Although I rather like Kick Buttowski, which is not without its violence.

I'm against the censoring and butchering of classic cartoons. Disney Channel has been doing this thing lately where they've redubbed new voices over the originals on the Mickey mouse cartoons. Annoys me to no end.

  5. I can't tell you how many time I used Wile E Coyote as an example of how not to launch yourself into the air. See? They were actually instructional.

I tried to hang myself with a bungee cord once. I kept almost dying..

  15. To counteract it, we have Pixar who makes kids movies that aren't painful to watch for adults.

  16. I guess Wile E. Coyote looks like a terrorist these days, what with ordering all those bombs from Acme.

  17. We have a TON of old WB cartoons - and we've noticed how much of the old stuff doesn't get shown on actual TV anymore. It's a shame. Our kids won't be pansies - they can survive the old WB cartoons (including Speedy Gonzales and the cartoons done in black face).

  18. Who can forget the old Road Runner Hour. All kinds of "violence" in that one...and it never scarred me. pffft.

Yeah yeah, I know - I'm on a bloggy vacation - but I stopped by here anyway. ;)

  19. And this is exactly the reason I watch channels like Boomerang and the Hub. They get the rights to be violent because they play "vintage cartoons." More gunshots, broken bones, and massive burns for me! :D

  22. You're so right. :( Kids today are nothing but pansies. I loved Acme toons and all the like. All the mindless cartoon violence to get a laugh isn't there anymore. It's all about being stupid now. All the good cartoons are gone. :(

  23. You are correct! These kids today, couldn't handle our cartoons! I recently introduced my granddaughter to the Three Stooges. She loved it. Of course, now I'm waiting for her to ambush me and gouge my eyes...

  28. They sure as hell don't make cartoons like this any more.

  29. Hahahaha, it's so true....kids shows today are not nearly as entertaining as classic looney tunes.
Thanks for the new blog of the day by the way, it's much appreciated :)
