THE FOLLOWING DRINKING GAMES ARE ON HIGH ALERT.

by Greg Colfaz (NWM Staff Writer)

Hey from Cottonwood Idaho. So it looks like the Swine Flu (N1H1 for all you PC folks) is back for a command performance. At the supermarket where I work the hand sanitizers have been flying off the shelves. All the news shows are also constantly talking about things you can do to prevent the spread of this uber-flu. The problem is they all seem to be neglecting one VERY important category. DRINKING GAMES. Specifically the ones that have sharing cups of beer as part of the rules. Granted alcohol kills germs, but what about the cups? Or more importantly, the saliva left on the cup after your friend takes a swig? Here are some of my personal precautions that might help.

QUARTERS:

Basic Game Premise: Get the quarter in the cup to make the other person drink.

Problem: Sharing the same cup of beer with your competition.

Solution: Use an empty shot glass instead. If one of you makes it in, the other one takes a predetermined swig from his or her beer can.

KINGS:

Basic Game Premise: Bunch of cards surround a giant pitcher of beer. 2 teams play against each other drawing cards that mean different things. Whichever team draws the 4th King has to drink the entire pitcher.

Problem: Mouth germs all over the community pitcher.

Solution: Pour the beer out into separate cups and do a group chug.

BEER PONG:

Basic Game Premise: 2 teams shoot ping-pong balls into cups filled with beer.

Problem: Germy hands grabbing and shooting balls into cups players will be drinking from.

Solution: Aside from the water cup for the ball, have Purell hand sanitizer on the side for the shooters on deck. Dorky, but does the trick.

FLIP CUPS:

Basic Game Premise: 2 teams go head to head in beer drinking and flipping cups. Losing team downs a pitcher of beer.

Problem: Using the same cups round after round. Drinking from a community pitcher.

Solution: Change up cups every round. Have each losing team member shotgun a beer instead of drinking from the same pitcher.
