SHOTGUNNING A BEER FOR BEGINNERS.

by Greg Colfaz (NWM Staff Writer)

GO WITH THE FLOW:

Hey from Cottonwood, Idaho. Ok, when it comes to shotgunning beers, a lot of fratties say it’s all in the technique. I'd have to agree for the most part. Similar to funneling a beer, you just need to relax and let the liquid to slide down your throat. Take large gulps that are in sync with the natural beer flow. The minute you think about what you’re doing and try to control the pace – BAM! You’ve got a foamy mess and have lost the respect of your college cohorts.

IT’S IN THE HOLE:

Personally, I think the hole size and placement is just as important. To start, make sure you have a key to make the proper size hole. Then choose an area that is around ½” to ¾” from the bottom. Too close to the bottom of the can and you won’t have enough room for your mouth. This will cause unnecessary dribbling and most likely leads to spillage. Also, make sure the hole diameter is the right size. Again, using a key is the easiest way to accomplish this goal. Most say it should be the size of the key tip. Personally I think it should be a tad bigger. Almost a 1/2 “ in diameter. This will help you deal with the carbonation easier. Happy drinking!!!
