PASS, FAIL, JUDGE JUDY?

I guess from the extra ordinary amount of Staples and Old Navy commercials on the ol’ tube means college kids are heading back. As far as my unversity career goes, I did ok. 3.0-ish. I had to work my ass off for that grade, because I totally f—up one semester. The problem was I took my parents' advice.

“Expand your mind! Don’t take the easy way out with college,” they said.

So being the dutiful son, I signed up for Stars & Galaxies. I figured, how bad could it be? Some stars. A wormhole or two. Easy. Well that turned out to be a big mistake that ended in a C-. Years later (after my school stats slipped to the bottom of my resume), I realized that getting the most out of college didn’t have to mean setting myself up for failure. There are plenty of courses that can enlighten the mind and still be mindless. Just check out these VERY REAL college courses…no joke:

Simpsons and Philosophy (University of California-Berkeley)

Far Side Entomology (Oregon State)

Myth and Science Fiction: Star Wars, The Matrix, and Lord of the Rings (Centre College)

Cyberporn and Society (State University of New York at Buffalo)

The Science of Superheroes (University of California at Irvine)

Daytime Serials: Family and Social Roles (University of Wisconsin)

Learning From YouTube (Pitzer College)

AND let’s not forget …

Arguing with Judge Judy: Popular ‘Logic’ on TV Judge Shows (University of California, Berkeley)
