Back in ’81 you couldn’t walk two ft. in your corduroy pants and Zips without seeing a pac-man phone, coffee mug or wall poster. Spencer Gifts had a bunch of 'em, right next to the Farts in a Box. Namco’s hungry yellow monster was all the rage. So much so, that it inspired Jerry Buckner (no relation to Bill) and Gary Garcia (no relation to Jerry) to rush into a studio to record Pac-Man Fever. The song was released as a single in December of ’81. Within a couple of months it rocketed to top ten status on the Billboard 100 chart, and ended up at #9 in March of ‘82. The duo even earned a gold record. Unfortunately, Buckner & Garcia’s second single “Do the Donkey Kong” didn’t fair nearly as well.
Yes, there's a dance that went along with the song. And yes, I'm pathetic for knowing it.
Classic! "Froggie's Lament" is a really touching ballad, and my favorite song off of the album......
