I’d like to set the record straight here. YES, we all know Mr. Tom Hanks is a mega, mega, mega celeb that can have his “starring role” pick of any film he wants. And that’s just swell, got nothing against the guy. I like all his films…even The Man With One Red Shoe (must rental). What I do get a tad miffed at is that PETER SCOLARI gets dumped on because of Mr. Hank’s success.
“Oh yeah, whatever happened to that other guy?”
Is the usual comment I hear when the Bosom Buddies conversation topic about Kip (Tom) makes its way to Henry (Peter). To that I say PLENTY! Sure, compared to Tom Hanks he pales in comparison, but wouldn’t that be a fair assessment of any other actor in that place. The same would be said if Tom’s costar was Craig T. Nelson, Henry Winkler or yeah I’ll go there – the legendary Jim Jay Bullock (Monroe from Too Close for Comfort).
Just take a gander Mr. Peter Scolari’s career and you’ll see what I mean.
TV SHOW highlights:
Guest appearances on: ER, The West Wing, Sabrina The Teenage Witch, Ally McBeal, The King of Queens, The Nanny, Big Love, Touched by an Angel and Empty Nest
Regular on: Dweebs, Newhart & Honey I Shrunk The Kids series (producer credits)
MOVIES:
That Thing You Do, Cathedral Pines, Suburban Girl, A Plumm Summer, The Polar Express & Letting Go (in post production)
I had such a crush on him too. Weird kid, I know.

And it looks like Hanks always remembers his Buddies (pun intended). That's why I'm glad you mentioned him throwing a bone to Scolari by giving him a part in That Thing You Do.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm also glad you mentioned his role on Newhart. I never watched it, but I do remember it bein very successful and he had his hand in its success.
Scolari will always have fond place in my television heart. That doesn't mean I won't continue to use him as punchline. I mean come on, "honey I shrunk the kids" the series...
ReplyDeleteLoved Bosom Buddies!!!!
